During the school assembly, the Red Cross Club of S.K.P.S, in association with the Kerala State’s Leprosy Unit, presented an awareness speech on Leprosy and how to identify leprosy in children. The idea of the session was to bring out awareness in students about Leprosy and how it can be identified in its early stage so that it can be cured entirely. Also, a pledge was taken on the topic. The Red Cross club of S.K.P.S thanks, Vice-Principal Mr Babu Joseph for providing such an opportunity.
The speech was delivered by Kumari Gayatri Shinoj of standard 8 C and the pledge was by Master Aaron Jacob Paul of standard 9 A.
It was indeed a relevant subject to be communicated with students. Leprosy is a chronic infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, an acid-fast, rod-shaped bacillus. The disease mainly affects the skin, the peripheral nerves, the mucosa of the upper respiratory tract, and the eyes. Leprosy is curable and treatment in the early stages can prevent disability.
