The 21st Sahodaya Kottayam Interschool Badminton Tournament was held on the 8th and 9th of November 2024, bringing together around 130 schools for a thrilling competition of talent and sportsmanship.
The event commenced with a warm welcome note delivered by Fr. Ajeesh Kunjarakattu OSB, followed by the presidential address and lamp-lighting ceremony by Fr. Bino Cheriyil OSB. The tournament was inaugurated by the chief guest, Ms. P.S. Jeena, an international basketball player and former captain of the Indian basketball team. Dr Bino Cheriyil OSB honoured the chief guest, and the PTA President, Ms Jenny Robin, delivered the felicitation speech.
A symbolic first shot of the tournament was played between Ms P.S. Jeena and the school principal, Fr. Ajeesh Kunjarakattu OSB, setting the tone for the exciting matches to follow. The tournament featured various categories, including Under-12, Under-15, and Under-19 singles, doubles, and mixed doubles events.
The competition was intense and showcased the exceptional skills of the participants. The overall champions were Lourdes Public School, Kottayam, and St. Kuriakose Public School, Kaduthuruthy, both scoring 20 points. The overall runners-up was Ebenezer International Residential School, Ettumanoor, with 19 points.
The two-day event concluded on a high note, marking another successful chapter in the Sahodaya Kottayam sports legacy.
