I vividly recall my first meeting with the Bishop of Kottayam, S.E Msgr Kuriakose
Our Kunnachery. From the dialogue I understood his desire to build a school near the future
monastery. This made me revert the intention of Vallombrosan monastic community
superiors not to build a school with the beginning of the foundation of our Vallombrosan
monastic community in India. But I let the thing ripen over time, without discarding it,
having as its first concern was the formation of the community.
In practice, however, both went together and all our interventions, pragmatic and
financial, were always oriented towards the construction of the monastery and the
school. Indeed, immediately after the purchase of land in Kaduthuruthy, where today
the monastery and the school are situated, the construction of the school building
took first place and preference.
I had therefore the approval of the Community of Montenero and of the General
Council and we proceeded for this adventure and today it has become a wonderful
and impressive reality. The beginning stage was entrusted to Fr. Jacob Vellian, who
was the first Manager of St.Kuriakose Public School. Then, Vallombrosan Fathers
8 have taken care of the organization and the educational programs, as well as the

construction of the building. I was able to see personally during my frequent visits,
the initial phase of the construction and the incredible growth of the School.
My sincere greetings and wishes for the future of the school: that it is always an
inspiration for the integral human formation of young ones, with all its moral, ethical,
scientific, social and religious values. I am fully convinced that Christian values,
revealed and brought about by Christ, lead to the perfection of the same human
values. The Christian witness to a Benedictine monastic community will be the best
confirmation of this work which will continue to give its flourishing fruits for the well-
being of the people.
I sincerely thank Almighty God, Benefactor of all graces, and may He bless all our
activities, then the Vallombrosan community in India and all the people and families
who are entrusted to this educational institution.
