My Life At St. Kuriakose Public School
I was a fish out of water when I first walked into class as my Malayalam was
Reminiscence not up to the mark with diction issues and coming from a small town from a
different state, I had difficulties in settling with the academic culture of Kerala,
but my fears were soon allayed when I made friends at school. I started to enjoy
school and learnt a lot of new things from my teachers, class-mates.I shifted to
hostel when I was in Class XII and was fortunate to be under the guidance of
Rev. Fr.TomyThervalakattayil OSB who was the manager of the school and
warden of the hostel. My hostel days at SKPS also ingrained in me the spirit of
brotherhood, team-work, discipline, prayer, punctuality which I am still indebted to
Rev Fr.Tomy, teachers, non-teaching staff, classmates and my hostel mates.I also
got my first opportunity to speak in front of an audience at SKPS when I was 61
asked to read the daily news in front of the assembly and even though I faltered in
my first attempt but it was a learning for me and I understood that if I work hard,
I can improve and improvise and today when I speak in front of large audiences as
part of my job, I still recollect my first day on stageand remind myself to be confident
and not to falter again.SKPS taught me confidence, honesty, discipline and even
though I was with the school for two years the impact, the school has made in my
life is significant. I am fortunate to have very good teachers at SKPS who were
devoted to their profession and they embedded the virtues of hard work, honesty,
courage and respect towards elders and gave all of us thoughts that broadened our
outlook.
